Defence Ministry Shortens Training Period for SPPI 'Red and White Cooperative' Programme
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Ministry of Defence (Kemhan) has decided to shorten the duration of discipline and leadership training for participants of the Sarjana Penggerak Pembangunan Indonesia (SPPI) for the Merah Putih Village/Sub-district Cooperative (KDKMP) programme to just two weeks.
Originally, the basic military training, which was directed towards the reserve component (Komcad), was intended to last longer. However, Deputy Minister of Defence Donny Ermawan stated that the training concept has been changed to National Defence Training (Pelatihan Bela Negara) and the duration has been reduced.
“The learning and educational sites remain within the 67 TNI educational units, but only the duration has changed. This is related to our revision of the programme,” said Donlag after a meeting with Commission I of the House of Representatives (DPR RI) in the parliamentary complex, Jakarta, on Wednesday.
He added that once the National Defence Training is completed, participants will focus on managerial education for one month. Subsequently, participants will be educated by the Ministry of Cooperatives and also the Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries (KKP), in accordance with the village cooperative and fishermen cooperative programmes.
“The Ministry of Cooperatives has prepared the modules, as has the KKP, which has also prepared the learning modules,” said Donny.
He explained that this decision was the result of an evaluation conducted by the Ministry of Defence regarding the basic military training programme, following the deaths of five SPPI participants.
Meanwhile, the Deputy Chairman of Commission I of the DPR RI, Dave Laksono, stated that the Merah Putih Cooperative programme is intended to have a significant impact on both national micro and macro-economic growth.
Therefore, he requested that the programme be implemented effectively to avoid any negative impact on the government’s image or the sincere intentions driven by President Prabowo Subianto.
“We fully understand this, and this serves as extraordinary input to perfect this very noble programme,” said Dave.
