Defence Ministry Requests Additional Budget of Rp195 Trillion for 2027
Minister of Defence Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin announced that his ministry has proposed an additional budget for its 2027 work programme during a closed-door working meeting with House Commission I on Wednesday (10/6). The meeting was also attended by Indonesian Military (TNI) Commander General Agus Subiyanto, along with Army Chief of Staff General TNI Maruli Simanjuntak, Navy Chief of Staff Admiral TNI Muhammad Ali, and Air Force Chief of Staff Marshal TNI M. Tonny Harjono. Sjafrie explained that the ministry had initially proposed a total budget of Rp667 trillion for 2027, an amount he deemed necessary to meet the needs and priority scale of the three branches of the TNI. However, he acknowledged that the indicative ceiling set by the Ministry of Finance and the National Development Planning Agency (Bappenas) for the Defence Ministry in 2027 was only Rp139 trillion. Following an evaluation, the ministry settled on a proposed increase of Rp195 trillion, which would bring the total allocation to approximately Rp334 trillion. ‘We hope this additional proposal can obtain the blessing of the Budget Committee and be approved for the state defence budget allocation in the 2027 state budget,’ Sjafrie stated.
