Defence Ministry Provides Compensation to Deceased Kopdes Merah Putih Manager Candidates, Here's the Amount

Deputy Minister of Defence (Wamenhan) Air Marshal TNI (HOR) Donny Ermawan stated that the Ministry of Defence (Kemhan) has prepared compensation of Rp50 million for the families of prospective Kopdes Merah Putih managers who passed away. “The compensation from the Ministry of Defence is Rp50 million,” Donny told reporters at the Parliament Complex, Senayan, Central Jakarta, on Wednesday, 1 July 2026. In addition, the families will also receive compensation from BPJS Ketenagakerjaan. However, the exact amount depends on the cause of death of the Kopdes Merah Putih manager candidates. “For the BPJS component, it is likely around forty-two million rupiah. We do not yet know the exact figure as we are currently processing the claim with BPJS Ketenagakerjaan,” he said. “Because the death could be due to an accident or illness. We will later determine the criteria, whether it is classified as an accident or illness,” he explained. It was previously reported that the Ministry of Defence expressed its condolences over the deaths of five participants in the 2026 Sarjana Penggerak Pembangunan Indonesia (SPPI) Programme, who were undergoing state defence and managerial training for the Kopdes Merah Putih (KDMP) and Kopdes Nelayan Merah Putih (KNMP) programmes. Head of the Human Resources Development Agency (BPSDM) of the Ministry of Defence, Major General TNI Ketut Gede Wetan, said the government extended its deepest condolences to the families of the deceased participants. “First of all, on behalf of the Ministry of Defence of the Republic of Indonesia, the national selection committee, and all organisers of the Sarjana Penggerak Pembangunan Indonesia programme, we express our deepest condolences on the passing of five participants of the 2026 SPPI KDKN PKNP programme who were undergoing state and managerial defence training,” said Ketut Gede Wetan during a press conference on Saturday, 27 June 2026. The statement served as the Ministry of Defence’s official explanation regarding the increasing number of SPPI participants who died during the training series. Ketut stated that all deceased participants had received medical treatment in accordance with applicable procedures. According to him, each participant had different characteristics and health conditions, so their treatment was tailored to their medical needs. “The five participants had different characters and conditions; all participants received medical treatment according to procedures at unit health facilities and referral hospitals,” he said.
