Defence Ministry: General Ryamizard a Dedicated and Patriotic Leader
JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - Brigadier General Rico Sirait, Head of Information for the Defence Ministry’s Secretariat, stated that the Defence Ministry family mourns the passing of General TNI (Retired) Ryamizard Ryacudu. Rico noted that Ryamizard’s departure has left deep sorrow among his family, friends, soldiers, and all defence personnel who knew and worked with him in service to the nation. ‘General TNI (Retired) Ryamizard Ryacudu was a leader renowned for his high dedication, steadfast principles, and deep love for the homeland,’ Rico told Kompas.com on Sunday, 31 May 2026. Rico stated that for the Ministry of Defence, Ryamizard was not only a former Defence Minister but also a figure who left a legacy of leadership, dedication, and strong commitment to building national defence. He added that Ryamizard’s various ideas, policies, and contributions would remain integral to the Ministry of Defence’s journey in safeguarding Indonesia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. As a final tribute to Ryamizard’s service to the nation, the Ministry of Defence will hold a farewell ceremony and a lying-in-state. Rico added that a departure ceremony would take place at 11:00 WIB from the Ministry of Defence before the coffin is transported to the National Heroes’ Cemetery in Kalibata, Jakarta. ‘The late general’s remains will be interred with military honours at the National Heroes’ Cemetery in Kalibata as a state tribute to a soldier and statesman who dedicated his life to Indonesia. The military funeral ceremony will be led by the Minister of Defence of the Republic of Indonesia as the parade commander,’ Rico added. It is known that Ryamizard Ryacudu passed away at RSPAD Gatot Soebroto in Jakarta on Sunday, 31 May 2026 at 14:03 WIB. The former Defence Minister under President Joko Widodo’s administration died at the age of 76.
