Defence Ministry Discusses Strengthening Defence Cooperation with South Korea
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Minister of Defence Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin discussed strengthening defence cooperation with the Republic of Korea’s Ambassador to Indonesia, Yoon Soon Gu, during a meeting at the Ministry of Defence office in Jakarta on Tuesday. Sjafrie stated that the meeting addressed a number of concrete steps to reinforce the strategic partnership between Indonesia and South Korea in the defence sector. “The meeting discussed concrete steps to strengthen the strategic partnership between Indonesia and the Republic of Korea in the defence sector, including plans for a 2+2 meeting of foreign and defence ministers, education and training cooperation, and the development of air defence systems,” Sjafrie said via a statement on his official Instagram account @sjafrie.sjamsoeddin. He said the development of cooperation is focused on strengthening the domestic defence industry through the advancement of defence technology. “Defence industry cooperation must be directed towards tangible project progress, the resolution of various technical aspects, knowledge and technology transfer, and balanced benefits for both countries,” he stated. Sjafrie expressed hope that closer defence cooperation would further strengthen bilateral relations between Indonesia and South Korea while providing benefits for the development of both nations’ defence capabilities.
