Defence Ministry Cuts Military Training for Cooperative Managers to Two Weeks

The Ministry of Defence has reduced the duration of training for prospective managers of the Merah Putih Village Cooperatives (KDMP) and Merah Putih Fishing Villages (KNMP). The decision was made after five KDMP manager candidates died while undergoing Basic Military Training (Latsarmil).

Deputy Minister of Defence Donny Ermawan stated that the training period was initially set for one month, as all prospective managers were also to be trained as Reserve Components (Komcad). The Ministry of Defence then decided to eliminate the Latsarmil and cut the training duration to two weeks.

“In terms of time, it has also been reduced. What was originally a one-month reserve component training, this state defence training has also been shortened to two weeks,” Donny explained at the DPR Building in Central Jakarta on Wednesday, 1 July 2026.

Subsequently, all participants will undergo briefings on cooperative and fishing village management. “The remaining one month will be for managerial education and training,” Donny said. He noted that the briefing for KDMP manager candidates will be provided by the Ministry of Cooperatives, while KNMP candidates will be trained by the Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries. “However, the learning and education venues will remain at the 67 educational units. Only the schedule has changed,” Donny concluded.
