Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Ministry of Defence has confirmed that one TNI personnel attached to the UNIFIL peacekeeping force in Lebanon was killed and three others injured due to an Israeli artillery attack on Sunday (29/3).
“There are casualties among TNI soldiers, namely one deceased, one in serious condition, and two with minor injuries who are currently receiving medical treatment,” said the Head of the Defence Information Bureau (Karo Infohan) of the Ministry of Defence’s General Secretariat, Brigadier General TNI Rico Ricardo Sirait, when confirmed by ANTARA in Jakarta on Monday.
Rico explained that the incident occurred due to escalating conflict in the Lebanese region.
Based on information gathered by ANTARA, the conflict escalation intensified, ultimately targeting the Indonesian contingent’s location in the city of Adshit al-Qusyar in southern Lebanon with artillery strikes.
“It should be noted that the incident occurred amid mutual artillery exchanges, and the clarification process is still being conducted by UNIFIL,” Rico clarified.
Rico assured that TNI headquarters would provide more complete and up-to-date information regarding the incident.
“For further operational developments, they will be conveyed by the TNI,” he said.
