The Ministry of Defence has recorded the deaths of five participants in a basic military training programme for prospective managers of the Village Cooperative (KDKMP) and Kampung Nelayan Merah Putih (KNMP) programmes as of Friday (26/6/2026). The participants reportedly died after experiencing health problems.

Head of the Defence Human Resources Development Agency at the Ministry of Defence, Mayjen TNI Ketut Gede Wetan Pastia, expressed his condolences over the deaths. He stated that the participants died while attending state defence and managerial training under the Sarjana Penggerak Pembangunan Indonesia (SPPI) programme.

“On behalf of the Ministry of Defence of the Republic of Indonesia, the national selection committee, and all organisers of the SPPI programme, we extend our deepest condolences for the passing of five participants of the 2026 SPPI KDKMP KNMP programme who were undergoing state defence and managerial training,” he said during a press conference on Saturday (27/6/2026).

He explained that the participants experienced health problems during the SPPI military training programme. According to him, all victims received treatment from health workers at the training unit.

Ketut added that the participants were also referred to hospitals for further medical treatment in accordance with applicable procedures. However, the lives of the five participants could not be saved.

“These five participants had different characteristics and medical conditions. All participants received medical treatment according to procedure, both at the unit health facilities and at referral hospitals,” he said.

He mentioned that all participants had also undergone medical examinations before the programme. The examinations included blood and urine laboratory tests, pregnancy tests, chest X-rays, EKGs, abdominal ultrasounds, as well as eye, dental, posture, and mental health checks.

Ketut explained that the first participant reported to have died was Yonanda Muhammad Taufik from the Pusdiklatpur Kodiklatad Baturaja training unit. On Wednesday (17/6/2026) at around 16:00 WIB, the deceased was participating in an environmental familiarisation activity in the Pusdiklatpur Baturaja training area, walking alongside other participants.
