Defence Minister's Message to Reserve Component Members: There are Enemies Within Who Dislike a Strong Indonesian Bureaucracy
Defence Minister Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin has reminded members of the Reserve Component (Komcad) from the civil servant (ASN) sector to be wary of various influences that could weaken the Indonesian government’s bureaucratic system.
“I have previously mentioned that there are enemies within, namely parties that do not want the bureaucracy in Indonesia to be strong. In fact, you are trained so that the bureaucracy becomes strong and serves as an example,” said Sjafrie while providing briefing to 1,773 civil servants who are to be inaugurated as Komcad members at Halim Perdanakusuma Air Force Base, East Jakarta, on Wednesday, 3 June 2026.
Sjafrie stated that Komcad civil servants have a responsibility to strengthen the bureaucracy and act as role models in their respective workplaces after completing their Komcad training. According to him, there are parties, both from abroad and within the country, who do not wish to see the Indonesian bureaucracy develop and grow stronger.
“People from outside do not want the bureaucracy in Indonesia to be strong. There are even people within Indonesia whom we refer to as the ‘deep state’,” he said. However, Sjafrie did not elaborate further on the parties referred to in his statement.
He emphasised that Komcad civil servants need to strengthen their personal capacity, nationalism, and patriotism as preparation for performing their duties as state apparatus. He noted that the values acquired during Komcad training must serve as the foundation for maintaining integrity and professionalism in the workplace. By prioritising nationalism and professionalism, Komcad civil servants are expected to deliver their best performance for the public interest while simultaneously strengthening the government’s bureaucratic system.
“One thing you must pay attention to is vigilance. Do not allow yourself to be influenced by conflicting ideologies, because our ideology is clearly Pancasila. Our politics is clearly the 1945 Constitution of the Republic of Indonesia,” said Sjafrie.
A total of 1,773 civil servants participating in the Komcad training are from various government agencies in Jakarta. Previously, they were released by the Head of the Defence Reserve Agency of the Ministry of Defence, Lieutenant General TNI Gabriel Lema, at Halim Perdanakusuma Air Force Base, East Jakarta, on Wednesday (22/4). The participants underwent basic military training (latsarmil) for one and a half months at several TNI facilities, including the Health Education Centre (Pusdikkes), Education Squadron (Skadik) 301, the Indonesian Air Force Language Centre (Pusbahasa AU), Jakarta Military Regional Command (Kodam Jaya), and the 1st Marine Force (Pasmar 1) Cilandak.
