Jakarta (ANTARA) - Defence Minister Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin has urged troops stationed in Papua to provide the best service to local communities. Sjafrie made the remarks during a visit to Yonif TP 861/Maleo Kamur in Wanam Village, Ilwayab District, Merauke Regency, South Papua, on Saturday (23 May). ‘The Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) is the people’s army, born from the people, serving the people, and returning to the people,’ Sjafrie said in a statement issued in Jakarta on Monday. According to Sjafrie, the presence of the TNI must bring significant positive impacts to communities. Not only ensuring security, Sjafrie stressed that the TNI must also help boost local economies and rural infrastructure development. These tasks can be fulfilled by Yonif TP as the unit is designed with diverse capabilities, including managing food security land, fish farming, healthcare services, and infrastructure development. Moreover, Sjafrie urged all Yon TP 861/Maleo Kamur soldiers to strengthen cooperation and continuously hone their skills. Thus, soldiers will be better prepared to carry out territorial defence duties and foster public prosperity. It is worth noting that during the visit, Sjafrie was accompanied by senior officials from the TNI Headquarters, including TNI Deputy Commander General Tandyo Budi Revita. During the visit, Sjafrie inspected several Yon TP 861 facilities, including the soldiers’ kitchen, where he ensured that nutritional needs were adequately met.
