Defence Minister Sjafrie Calls Governor Iqbal After Visiting Tuan Guru Bagu

Defence Minister Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin visited charismatic West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) cleric TGH Turmuzi Badaruddin, known as Tuan Guru Bagu, at the Soedirman National Defence Central Hospital (RSPPN) in Jakarta on Sunday (21/6/2026). Sjafrie expressed delight at seeing Tuan Guru Bagu’s health continue to improve. He conveyed this assurance after telephoning NTB Governor Lalu Muhamad Iqbal.

According to Iqbal, during the visit the minister confirmed that the respected senior cleric would receive the best medical care until fully recovered. “The minister also hopes that, although Tuan Guru’s condition continues to improve, visits should be limited for now so he can rest optimally and recover quickly,” Governor Iqbal told the media on Sunday.

Iqbal said that, in line with Minister Sjafrie’s direction, Tuan Guru Bagu would not rush home and would continue treatment at RSPPN Soedirman until he is truly fit. “Tuan Guru should stay here first until completely healthy,” Sjafrie told Tuan Guru Bagu and his wife, Ummi Aisyah, who has been faithfully accompanying him.

Previously, Guru Bagu had received medical treatment at the NTB Provincial General Hospital for several days due to health problems. However, to obtain more intensive and comprehensive care, Iqbal instructed that the cleric be referred to Jakarta. Tuan Guru Bagu was then flown from NTB to RSPPN Soedirman Jakarta using an air ambulance on Thursday (18/6/2026).

Iqbal expressed deep appreciation and gratitude for the Defence Minister’s considerable attention. The former Indonesian Ambassador to Turkey said this concern from the central government is very reassuring news for the family and the people of NTB. Iqbal also called on all levels of NTB society to continue sending prayers. “Let us keep praying that Tuan Guru Bagu is granted healing and recovery so he can resume his activities and service within the community,” Iqbal urged.
