Defence Minister says YTP presence will help people's lives

Jakarta (ANTARA) - Defence Minister Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin believes that the presence of the Territorial Development Battalion (YTP) will greatly assist community life, particularly in Lamongan, East Java. He made this statement during his direct inspection of the construction of the headquarters and troops at Yonif TP 887/KTM in Slaharwotan Village, Sambeng Subdistrict, Lamongan, on Wednesday. “The presence of Yonif TP 887/KJM in Lamongan is not only for defence but also to help the people. The soldiers will be involved in food security programmes, disaster management, and regional development,” said Sjafrie during his visit to the YTP 887/KTM headquarters, as quoted from the official press release received in Jakarta. Sjafrie assessed that Lamongan has diverse potentials for food security and development that can be utilised for community needs. According to him, these potentials must later be developed by YTP soldiers so that the entire community can benefit from Lamongan’s natural wealth. On the other hand, the work of YTP soldiers in creating security, food security, and regional management must be supported by adequate facilities. Therefore, Sjafrie visited the YTP headquarters in Lamongan to ensure that all soldier facilities, from barracks, food, kitchen facilities, and other supporting facilities, are suitable for use. Sjafrie is convinced that if all facilities are fulfilled, the soldiers will provide the best performance and service to the community. The visit concluded with an inspection of the construction area, symbolic tree planting, and a friendly gathering with the soldiers.
