Defence Minister Requests Additional Rp195 Trillion Budget for National Defence System

Minister of Defence Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin has requested an additional budget of Rp195 trillion from House Commission I of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI) for the 2027 fiscal year. Following a closed-door meeting with the commission, Sjafrie revealed that the Ministry of Defence had proposed a budget of Rp667 trillion to the Ministry of Finance. In 2027, we submitted a budget requirement plan totalling Rp667 trillion, Sjafrie stated at the DPR building in Central Jakarta. However, the Ministry of Finance and the National Development Planning Agency (Bappenas) provided an indicative ceiling of only Rp139 trillion. He explained that the total budget remains insufficient for the needs of the national defence system and protecting state sovereignty. He confirmed proposing the additional budget to House Commission I to be forwarded to the DPR Budgetary Board. House Commission I Chairman Utut Adianto stated that the commission approved and supported the additional budget proposal to be forwarded to the Budgetary Board.
