Jakarta (ANTARA) - Defence Minister Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin motivated civil servants (ASN) attending basic military education as prospective reserve component members (Komcad), during his visit to their training site at Brigif 1 Marinir, Cilandak, Jakarta, on Wednesday.

In an official press release received in Jakarta on Wednesday, Sjafrie stated that all civil servants need to possess a strong mentality for state defence and patriotism.

That mentality, Sjafrie said, needs to be cultivated in all civil servants so that they can work diligently in their respective institutions for the progress of the nation and public service.

“Komcad is not intended to turn civil servants into militarists, but rather to instil strong national character, discipline, unity, and a spirit of dedication,” Sjafrie said, as quoted in the press release.

Sjafrie also reminded the participants that all facilities, including the training they are undergoing, are sourced from the people.

Therefore, he said, civil servants are required to provide the best dedication as a form of accountability to society.

A total of 280 civil servant participants from 16 ministries and agencies are currently attending the education.

Some of those institutions include the Ministry of State Secretariat, Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, Ministry of Transportation, Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries, Ministry of Transmigration, Ministry of Cooperatives, Ministry of Tourism, and Ministry of Forestry.
