Defence Minister Gathers TNI Commander and Attorney General to Evaluate Forest Area Control Task Force
Defence Minister and Chairman of the Steering Committee for the Forest Area Control Task Force (Satgas PKH), Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin, gathered senior cross-institutional officials at the Ministry of Defence office in Jakarta on Monday (13/7/2026). The closed-door meeting aimed to optimise, synchronise, and fundamentally evaluate the organisational management of Satgas PKH.
Based on observations, the officials in attendance included Indonesian Military (TNI) Commander General Agus Subiyanto, who serves as Vice Chairman of the Steering Committee II; Attorney General ST Burhanuddin, who is Vice Chairman of the Steering Committee I; Head of the Development and Finance Comptroller (BBPK) Yusuf Ateh, a Steering Committee member; TNI Chief of General Staff Lieutenant General Richard Tampubolon, who is Vice Chairman of the Executive Committee I; and Acting Junior Attorney General for Special Crimes (Jampidsus) Rudi Margono. However, National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo, the Vice Chairman of the Steering Committee III, had not been seen by the time the meeting commenced.
Satgas PKH Spokesperson Barita Simanjuntak explained that the regular meeting focused on improving organisational mechanisms, supervision, coordination, and accountability reporting to President Prabowo Subianto, in accordance with the mandate of Presidential Regulation Number 5 of 2025. "Routinely, the Satgas PKH steering and executive bodies carry out organisational functions as evaluation material for devising strategies and steps to achieve the targets and tasks that have been set," Barita stated on Monday (13/7/2026).
Barita added that the evaluation and synchronisation process is directly based on the dynamics of findings, verification, and validation in the field. Moreover, the committee’s daily tasks involve close cooperation from 12 ministries and agencies, including TNI elements for area security. "The evaluation discusses field findings and various issues in the dynamics of state control over forest areas and the collection of administrative fines," Barita elaborated.
To date, the Satgas PKH claims to have secured several significant achievements. These include the reclamation of millions of hectares of forest land by the state, asset recovery, and the collection of administrative fines, which is reportedly now entering its seventh phase. Although the coordination meeting was held suddenly, Barita declined to provide a specific answer when asked whether the evaluation and restructuring of the task force’s management were a direct consequence of the legal troubles facing former Satgas PKH Executive Chairman Febrie Adriansyah. Febrie Adriansyah officially resigned from his position as Junior Attorney General for Special Crimes before being named a suspect by the police on Saturday (11/7/2026).
