Defence Minister Gathers Retired TNI Generals to Discuss Defence Strategy

JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - The purpose of Indonesian Defence Minister Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin gathering retired TNI generals is to discuss defence strategies. “I will convey one essential matter that the TNI elders may need to know, which is certainly very much related to defence strategy,” said Sjafrie at the meeting location of the retired TNI generals at his office on Jl Medan Merdeka Barat, Central Jakarta, on Friday (24/4/2026). “Then afterwards, the TNI Commander will also explain the essences that need to be known by the elders and senior TNI retirees,” he continued. According to him, national interests have been the principle of state governance all along. “The country’s defence strategy is also inseparable from the principles of state governance, namely those related to the constitution and also related to national interests,” he concluded. The guests arrived one by one, alighting from their vehicles, then entering the Bhinneka Tunggal Ika Hall to attend the closed-door meeting. A number of retirees present came from the three TNI branches. From the Indonesian Army, attendees included TNI General (Ret.) Wiranto, TNI General (Ret.) Gatot Nurmantyo, TNI General (Ret.) Andika Muhammad Perkasa, TNI General (Ret.) Agustadi Sasongko, and TNI General (Ret.) Dudung Abdurachman. There were also TNI General (Ret.) Agum Gumelar, TNI Lieutenant General (Ret.) Djamari Chaniago, TNI Lieutenant General (Ret.) Kiki Syahnakri, TNI Lieutenant General (Ret.) Valentinus Suhartono Suratman, TNI Lieutenant General (Ret.) Fadillah, and TNI Lieutenant General (Ret.) Bambang Darmono. From the Indonesian Navy, attendees included TNI Admiral (Ret.) Agus Suhartono, TNI Admiral (Ret.) Yudo Margono, TNI Admiral (Ret.) Siwi Sukma Adji, TNI Admiral (Ret.) Marsetio, TNI Admiral (Ret.) Ade Supandi, and TNI Lieutenant General (Ret.) Mar. Muhammad Alfan Baharudin. Meanwhile, from the Indonesian Air Force, attendees included TNI Marshal (Ret.) Djoko Suyanto, TNI Marshal (Ret.) Imam Sufaat, TNI Marshal (Ret.) Ida Bagus Putu Dunia, TNI Marshal (Ret.) Agus Supriatna, TNI Air Marshal (Ret.) Imran Baidirus, and TNI Air Marshal (Ret.) Hadiyan Sumintaatmadja. In addition, TNI Commander General Agus Subiyanto, Deputy TNI Commander General Tandyo Budi Revita, Army Chief of Staff General Maruli Simanjuntak, Navy Chief of Staff Admiral Muhammad Ali, Air Force Chief of Staff Marshal Tonny Harjono, as well as other Ministry of Defence officials, were present at the meeting.
