Indonesian Defence Minister Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin received a courtesy call from Qatar’s Ambassador to Indonesia, Sultan Bin Mubarak Saad Al-Dosari, at the Ministry of Defence office in Jakarta on Monday (22/6). The bilateral meeting focused on plans to strengthen military cooperation regulations between the two countries.

Sjafrie emphasised that the relationship between Jakarta and Doha is based on shared views in responding to global geopolitical dynamics. Indonesia is fully committed to ensuring this cooperation yields balanced multiplier effects for both parties.

“Indonesia and Qatar share a commitment to continue building a strategic partnership that is mutually respectful, mutually beneficial, and contributes to regional stability and peace,” Sjafrie stated via his official Instagram account, as quoted on Tuesday (23/6).

One of the crucial points discussed was the implementation steps for forming a Joint Committee as a tactical coordination platform. Both sides also intensively discussed the drafting stages of a Memorandum of Understanding and a Defence Cooperation Agreement (DCA). The DCA document is projected to serve as the primary legal umbrella and formal foundation for strengthening strategic defence programmes between Indonesia and Qatar in the future.

During the meeting, Ambassador Sultan Bin Mubarak also conveyed an official invitation from Qatar’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defence for Minister Sjafrie to undertake a reciprocal working visit to Doha, Qatar.
