Jakarta - Defence Minister Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin and Vice Chief of Staff of the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) General Tandyo Budi Revita performed Eid al-Adha prayers on 1447 Hijriah with residents at Makodam XVIII/Kasuari in Manokwari, West Papua, on Wednesday, 27 May.

In a press release issued by the TNI General Headquarters Public Affairs Centre on Thursday, it was stated that the presence of the Defence Minister and Vice Chief of Staff demonstrated warm relations with the local community.

‘The Eid al-Adha prayer service at Makodam XVIII/Kasuari reflects the TNI’s closeness to the community and strengthens unity, tolerance, and togetherness in West Papua,’ the press release quoted.

During the Eid al-Adha sermon, preacher K.H. Baharuddin Sabollah urged attendees to emulate the values of sincerity, sacrifice, social care, and togetherness as exemplified by the Eid al-Adha story.

According to Baharuddin, these values are crucial to uphold in community life and when serving the nation.

After the prayer service, the two officials, alongside Kodam XVIII/Kasuari personnel and local residents, carried out the sacrificial animal slaughter.

With the Eid al-Adha occasion, it is hoped that the TNI and its personnel can continue to strengthen community ties to foster harmonious relations and a secure environment.
