Jakarta — A member of Commission I of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Amelia Anggraini, has stated that the implementation of Alert Level 3 status by the TNI, following a period at Alert Level 1, demonstrates that Indonesia’s defence institution possesses a dynamic and measured alert readiness mechanism in responding to evolving security developments.

She stated that this step constitutes part of standard procedure in military readiness management, aimed at ensuring that all TNI elements remain prepared to face various potential threats without creating panic in public discourse.

“Therefore, alert status is not merely a symbol, but represents an instrument for managing national defence readiness,” Anggraini said in Jakarta on Friday.

She further noted that the change from Alert Level 1 to Alert Level 3 can be understood as an indicator that security situation evaluations are conducted periodically, allowing alert levels to be adjusted according to developing strategic conditions.

Commission I of the House of Representatives, she said, understands that terminology such as Alert Level 1, Alert Level 2, and Alert Level 3 are essentially part of internal military terminology or “soldier’s language” used to regulate unit readiness levels.

However, in the context of public communication in the era of information transparency, according to Anggraini, proportionate explanation remains necessary so that the public does not misinterpret such status.

To this end, she stated that the TNI must ensure that every status change is based on accurate situation analysis, good inter-agency coordination, and proportionate public communication, so that national stability is maintained and public trust in the defence institution remains strong.

“Overall, Commission I of the House views the implementation of alert status by the TNI as a professional step in ensuring national defence readiness,” she said.

Previously, the Chief of Information Services of the TNI Army, Brigadier General Donny Pramono, stated that the TNI Army is currently implementing Alert Level 3 security following the earlier implementation of Alert Level 1 in accordance with a directive from the TNI Commander.

The implementation of Alert Level 3 is being carried out to strengthen troop readiness to secure areas during the Eid al-Fitr holiday period.

“We are implementing Alert Level 3 because we will also be implementing Eid al-Fitr activities,” Pramono said when meeting with media representatives at TNI Army Headquarters on Thursday (12 March).
