West Java Governor Dedi Mulyadi has urged regents and mayors to be bold in organising their regions to ensure order, cleanliness, and beauty, thereby supporting tourist visits. Dedi Mulyadi stated that a leader’s courage is essential to mobilise their ranks, including the Civil Service Police Unit (Satpol PP), in enforcing local regulations and maintaining environmental order. “If the commander has guts and is brave, the troops will become a brave force. However, if the commander is not brave, the troops will seek safety,” Dedi said during the destruction of 44 million illicit cigarettes at Garut Town Square on Wednesday. He noted that urban planning to maintain environmental cleanliness, order, and aesthetics is part of Satpol PP’s duties as enforcers of regional regulations. According to him, the character of field personnel is influenced by the leadership of their superiors, so regional heads need to provide firm support for regional planning tasks. “Because the troops depend on the commander,” said the former Purwakarta Regent. He added that such efforts must be carried out through coordination and collaboration with the Indonesian National Armed Forces and the National Police. Dedi assessed that a well-organised region can increase locally-generated revenue by boosting growth in the tourism, hotel, and restaurant sectors. “Tourist destinations must be organised, orderly, and beautiful,” he said. Dedi cited the Garut Town Square area as having aesthetic potential through urban planning, including the colonial-era buildings surrounding it. “I am standing in a very aesthetic place if the entire space and area are organised and tidied up,” he said.
