Dedi Mulyadi Outlines Plan to Address Gay Issues in West Java, Suggesting Military Barracks as Option
West Java Governor Dedi Mulyadi has revealed that the recent case involving a gay party in Karawang Regency has been resolved by the Regent and local authorities. Moving forward, he intends to establish a specialised institution focused on the rehabilitation of gay and LGBT individuals.
“From a regional perspective, the Regent has stated that there is no place for the gay community in Karawang,” he said at the West Java Education Office on Tuesday (9/6/2026).
He noted that the Regent of Karawang and relevant officials must continue to take more concrete actions. Regarding West Java provincial policy, Dedi stated that if the individuals involved are students, corrective measures must be implemented. If the issue occurs within the wider community, he pledged to intervene personally to address it, noting that he will seek out institutions capable of providing rehabilitation.
“The policy is: if they are students, we are obligated to provide correction. If it involves the community, I may also have to intervene. We will look for an institution that can provide healing for the gay community,” he said.
He further suggested that military barracks could serve as one of the methods to address LGBT-related issues. “Hopefully, military barracks can be a solution for the gay issue,” he added.
