Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia - Good news for vehicle owners residing in West Java, where West Java Governor Dedi Mulyadi has issued a circular that will make it easier for West Java residents to pay their vehicle taxes. In the Governor of West Java’s Circular (SE) Number 47/KU.03.02/Bapenda regarding Annual Motor Vehicle Tax Payments Without the Original Owner’s ID Card, starting from Monday (6/4/2026), West Java residents can fulfil their annual Motor Vehicle Tax payment obligations without bringing the original vehicle owner’s identity card (KTP). The Governor, often referred to as KDM, stated that people paying Motor Vehicle Tax now only need to bring the Vehicle Registration Certificate (STNK) and the Identity Card (KTP) of the person controlling the vehicle. This facilitation applies to both individual and corporate taxpayers. “People paying Motor Vehicle Tax now only need to bring the STNK and the KTP of the person controlling the vehicle. Hopefully, this facilitation will smooth all Samsat services in West Java and make it easier for the public to pay taxes,” said KDM in his press release, quoted on Tuesday (7/4/2026). In addition, this facilitation is also expected to increase public awareness and compliance in paying Motor Vehicle Tax. This policy is a response to a complaint from a resident who felt burdened when paying taxes at one of the Samsat offices in West Java. The resident was asked to pay an unofficial additional fee of Rp700,000 because they did not bring the original vehicle owner’s KTP. He then uploaded a video of the incident to social media, which was seen by KDM. “Paying taxes must not be made difficult because the government’s duty is to facilitate people in paying taxes,” KDM emphasised firmly.
