West Java Governor Dedi Mulyadi emphasised that there would be no change of school names as a result of the Superior Human School (Maung) program.

Through a post on his Instagram account @dedimulyadi71, he explained that ‘Maung’ is just a term.

“So the schools will remain SMA 3 Bandung, SMA 5 Bandung, and so on, and later in other places there may be SMA Negeri 1 Purwakarta, SMA Negeri 1 Subang, SMA Negeri 1 Indramayu. There will be no change to the terms such as SMA 3 Maung Bandung, SMA 5 Maung Bandung,” said KDM in his post on Sunday (17/5).

KDM explained that ‘Maung’ is an acronym for Superior Human, as a replacement for the favourite phrase that recruits students based on both academic and non-academic pathways.

Separately, the West Java Education Office affirmed that the Maung School program would not change the names of state schools designated as centres of excellence.

SMAN 3 Bandung, SMAN 5 Bandung and other favourite schools in West Java are confirmed to retain their original names.

“The Maung School is a program, so its name will remain. SMA 5 will still be SMA 5, SMA 3, then SMA 1 Purwakarta, SMA 1 Garut for example, the names will remain as they are, but they will later be given the designation that they are schools implementing the Maung School program,” said Head of West Java Education Office, Purwanto, on Saturday (16/5).

KDM is currently developing the Superior Human School (Maung) program. This program is specifically designed to accommodate high-achieving students in both academic and non-academic fields.

This educational transformation will involve dozens of schools spread across various districts/cities in West Java, scheduled to be launched in the 2026/2027 academic year.

The Maung School is designed as an educational institution with strategic majors needed in the future. KDM mentioned that at least six majors will be prepared, namely information technology, automotive, agriculture, sports, electrical and marine.

“With six majors. First, the information technology major. Second, the automotive major. The third is the agricultural major. The fourth is the sports major. The fifth is the electrical major. The sixth, the marine major,” he explained.

Regarding funding, KDM hopes that the development of the Maung School can receive support from the central government.

However, he affirmed that the West Java Provincial Government has prepared a budget and is ready to execute the construction of the school.

“Yes, who knows if there will be good fortune. Suddenly ‘Mr Governor, here are IDR 1.5 trillion because the roads are good, the schools are good’,” said KDM.

In addition to building schools, KDM also plans to improve supporting facilities in the vicinity of the school environment. The improvements include the construction of sidewalks, parks, bus stops, and street lighting on provincial roads in front of the schools.
