Jakarta - Deputy Chair of Commission II of the House of Representatives, Dede Yusuf Macan Effendi, stated that the work-from-home (WFH) policy one day per week for civil servants (ASN) and private sector workers could generate savings of up to tens of billions of rupiah per day. The government is implementing this WFH to save on fuel oil (BBM) amid high global oil prices due to the Middle East conflict. “Logically, savings can be achieved through WFH, as both in the centre and regions, it would save on electricity, water, WiFi, and transportation fuel costs—possibly tens of billions per day,” Dede Yusuf told Kompas.com on Thursday night (19/3/2026). According to him, WFH can be one way to reduce routine office costs. “So WFH is one way to cut routine office expenses. We did it before during COVID-19,” added the Democrat Party politician. “That’s why there are savings in terms of mobility and petrol usage; the savings are quite significant, about a fifth of what we usually spend,” said Airlangga after a meeting with President Prabowo Subianto at the Presidential Palace Complex, Jakarta, on Thursday (19/3/2026). According to Airlangga, the technical aspects of implementing WFH are still under further study, and details will be announced once they are mature. Airlangga stated that the WFH policy will take effect after Eid al-Fitr 2026, once the follow-up technicalities are in place. “Post-Eid, but we’ll determine the exact timing later,” Airlangga said.
