Dede Yusuf says party secretaries-general discuss Election Bill

Jakarta (ANTARA) - Deputy Chairman of House of Representatives Commission II Dede Yusuf has said that the secretaries-general of political parties have met to discuss input related to the Election Bill.

Dede said at the Parliament Complex in Jakarta on Thursday that the outcome of the secretaries-general’s meeting is material awaited by House Commission II before beginning deliberations on the bill amending Law No. 7 of 2017 on Elections.

“So we also hope that there will be output from the dialogues among the secretaries-general that can serve as enrichment for us in the commission,” Dede said.

According to him, the party secretaries-general brought input from their respective party chairpersons, so the results of their discussions can enrich the material of the Election Bill.

He assessed that if the working committee for deliberating the bill cannot yet be formed, the current Election Law can still be used because it has not been revoked.

Dede said the next election stages will only begin in June 2027, so the House still has time to prepare changes to the regulation.

“What is actually being rushed is the matter of the organisers. Well, the organisers’ ball is not in the House’s court. It is with the government. Starting from the selection committee, starting from the candidates,” he said.

“Regarding the Election Bill, we have agreed with the faction leaders that we will begin limited deliberations,” said Dasco after the 2026 MPR Annual Session and the Joint Session of the DPR-DPD at the Parliament Complex in Jakarta on Friday.

The House has also scheduled the absorption of aspirations from non-parliamentary political parties for next week. According to Dasco, the activity was previously postponed due to other agendas of the parliamentary leadership.
