Dede Yusuf: LGBT Damages the Younger Generation

Deputy Chairman of Commission II of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI), Dede Yusuf, stated his agreement with President Prabowo Subianto’s decision to designate Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender (LGBT) issues as a non-military threat. He noted that several countries have already implemented strict regulations against the LGBT movement. “This is in the context of it being very dangerous or damaging to the new generations of children. Especially in places like the military and other areas,” Dede said at the Parliament Complex in Central Jakarta. According to Dede, the government must take a firm stance with regulations or prohibitions on LGBT, as related activities are increasingly prevalent and more overt in public. “So in our opinion, what the President has done is already good, there is a regulation,” he asserted. “All over the world, this threat has already occurred. The problem is that adults can sort things out, but teenagers and children sometimes cannot,” the Democratic Party politician continued. Previously, Prabowo enacted Presidential Regulation (Perpres) Number 111 of 2025 concerning the General Defence Policy for 2025–2029. The regulation, enacted on 24 October 2025, serves as a guideline for implementing the general defence policy for the 2025 to 2029 period. In its appendix, the government categorises threats to national defence into three main groups: military threats, non-military threats, and hybrid threats. One of the items listed under the non-military threat category is the spread of LGBTQ culture.
