Dede Yusuf: LGBT Damages the Younger Generation

The Deputy Chairman of Commission II of the Indonesian House of Responsibility (DPR RI), Dede Yusuf, stated his agreement with President Prabowo Subianto’s decision to designate Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender (LGBT) as a non-military threat.

He noted that several countries have already implemented strict regulations against the LGBT movement. “Because the context here is that this is very dangerous or destructive to the new generations of children. Especially in the military and other sectors,” Dede said at the DPR Building, Central Jakarta, on Wednesday, 8 July 2026.

According to Dede, the government should take a firm stance through regulations or prohibitions against LGBT, as issues related to LGBT are becoming increasingly prevalent and overt in the public sphere. “Therefore, in our view, what the President has done is good; there is a regulation in place,” he asserted.

“This threat is occurring all over the world. The problem is that while adults can distinguish between things, adolescents and children sometimes cannot,” continued the Democratic Party member.

Previously, Prabowo established Presidential Regulation (Perpres) Number 111 of 2025 regarding the General National Defence Policy for 2025–2029. The regulation, issued on 24 October 2025, serves as a guideline for implementing general national defence policies during the 2025 to 2029 period.

In its annex, the government categorises threats to national defence into three main categories: military threats, non-military threats, and hybrid threats. The spread of LGBTQ culture is specifically listed under the category of non-military threats.
