Deddy Sitorus Reveals Many DPR Members Are Afraid to Express Opinions
Member of Commission II of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR) from the PDIP faction, Deddy Yevri Sitorus, has admitted that he often receives confessions from fellow council members about the difficulty of expressing opinions regarding the government.
“I personally, as a member of the DPR, often receive confessions from fellow council members about how difficult it is for them to speak freely,” said Deddy on Saturday, 20 June 2026.
Deddy stated that these council members feel afraid to speak about the government because their political parties have joined the government coalition.
The Chairman of the PDIP Central Executive Board (DPP) said they fear receiving reprimands if they voice criticism of the government.
“Because of their position within the government or fear of getting phone calls from here and there,” he said.
Deddy stated that political parties within the government are afraid to convey criticism to the government because they have obtained ministerial seats in the cabinet.
“Try checking, do the parties that have ministers in the cabinet dare to convey criticism of their ministers or the government in general?” he asserted.
