JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - Member of DPR RI Commission II Deddy Sitorus has responded to Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka’s statement that the government and DPR will both office in the Nusantara Capital (IKN).

Deddy emphasised that the DPR cannot simply office in IKN without the presence of ministries and institutions that serve as working partners.

This is because the DPR’s functions can only operate collectively with partners from the executive branch.

“If the DPR must also office there, why not? The issue is that the DPR works collectively in commissions and council plenary bodies (AKD) along with its executive partners,” said Deddy when contacted on Friday (10/4/2026).

“The DPR can only perform its functions there if its partners are also there. For example, if Commission II goes there, there must be elements from the Home Affairs Ministry, Ministry of Agrarian Affairs and Spatial Planning/National Land Agency, KPU, Bawaslu, State Apparatus and Bureaucratic Reform Minister, and others there. If not, what would they do there?” he continued.

Therefore, Deddy added, the utilisation of IKN should first focus on the executive facilities that are already available to avoid perceptions of budget wastage.

“My proposal is serious; the executive buildings that have already been constructed must be utilised so as not to fall into the category of wastefulness,” explained the PDI-P politician.

“Perhaps the Vice President is not following the IKN development process, that to date no legislative and judicial infrastructure has been built there,” Deddy continued.

Deddy revealed that facilities are currently available for the president, vice president, and four coordinating ministries along with their supporting apparatus.

Therefore, those facilities should be used on a rotational basis by the ministries.

“There is nothing wrong with utilising them on a rotational basis, each for one month. If not possible for one ministry, it could be one or two directorates general. After all, state funds that have already been spent in the hundreds of trillions should not go unused,” he said.

It was previously reported that Indonesia’s Vice President Gibran Rakabuming stated that the government and members of the People’s Representative Council (DPR) will both office in the Nusantara Capital (IKN).

Gibran made this statement in response to a remark by DPR member from the PDI-P faction, Deddy Sitorus, who urged him to immediately office in IKN.
