Decoding the 'Code' Behind Jokowi's Planned Political Safari
Joko Widodo’s planned journey is scheduled to take place in early June 2026. As reported, one of the primary motivations for this tour across Indonesia is to fulfil numerous invitations received from various regions. “I have received many invitations from various regions to attend events from the community. I am healthy, and I will attend the existing invitations,” Jokowi stated at his residence in Sumber, Banjarsari.
This political tour is expected to be supported by the Indonesian Solidarity Party (PSI). PSI will accompany Jokowi during his safari across the country. The General Chairperson of PSI, Bestari Barus, revealed that this support serves as an affirmation that Jokowi is now associated with PSI. “In addition to the winning programme with PSI, it also relates to the fact that Mr Jokowi is no longer with PDIP, but is now with PSI,” said Bestari.
Regarding the planned itinerary, the PDI-P party has provided significant commentary. PDIP spokesperson, Guntur Romli, suggested that Jokowi’s Nusantara safari would merely be a facade for distributing basic food supplies. “At most, he will travel around Indonesia just to distribute food packages and envelopes. It is just for social media content,” Guntur remarked.
Several parties speculate that this journey is purely intended to boost PSI’s profile as preparation for 2029. Regarding this, Guntur expressed little concern, asserting that Jokowi—whom he claimed was dismissed from PDIP—no longer holds significant influence. Guntur stated that Jokowi’s support for PSI lacks impact, even during his tenure as President.
What, then, is the significance of Jokowi’s involvement for PSI? Can this agenda be viewed as a method to test Jokowi’s popularity? This analysis is presented by the President Director of KedaiKOPI, Hendri Satrio.
