Decision on Return of Four Antam Gold Exploration Permits Rests with Investment Minister Rosan
The decision on the return of four gold exploration Mining Business Permits (IUP) belonging to PT Aneka Tambang Tbk (ANTM) lies in the hands of the current Minister of Investment and Downstreaming/Head of the Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM), Rosan Perkasa Roeslani.
According to Cecep Mochammad Yasin, Director of Mineral Business Development at the Directorate General of Minerals and Coal (Ditjen Minerba), the final decision resting with BKPM is consistent with the original revocation process, which also originated from BKPM.
"The application for the return of the IUPs was submitted to BKPM as the Chair of the Land Management and Investment Task Force. The revocation of the Antam IUPs in question was carried out by the Task Force Chair," Cecep explained when contacted on Tuesday (29/04).
Since the revocation was carried out by BKPM, the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) did not receive the application from PT Antam. "The return process is at BKPM," Cecep added.
It should be noted that during his tenure as Minister of BKPM, current Energy Minister Bahlil Lahadalia revoked 2,051 IUPs out of 2,078 IUPs during the 2022-2024 period. Four of these were gold exploration IUPs belonging to Antam, located in Oksibil, Pegunungan Bintang, Papua.
Regarding this matter, Dilo Seno Widagdo, Director of Portfolio and Business Development at MIND ID, said his party had requested the return of the revoked IUPs from the relevant ministries.
"We have already requested the return, but that is a government decision. You should ask the relevant parties at ESDM and BKPM," Dilo said when met in Jakarta on Thursday (19/04).
Dilo also explained that the exploration process for IUPs typically requires a long period, so progress may not have met targets within the given timeframe. "The problem is the same as what happened previously in East Java — we obtained an exploration IUP, we conducted exploration, and exploration does not happen quickly. In fact, we already had data related to the exploration results," he explained.
