Deception via phone
From Suara Karya
Many immigration chiefs all over Indonesia and immigration
representatives abroad, as well as the public, particularly the
owners of companies hiring foreign employees, have received calls
from an unidentified person claiming to be the aide as well as
the assistant director to the Directorate General of Immigration,
asking them to transfer funds into the account of Iman Santoso in
BNI Harmoni branch, number 070.00300905.901.
The person has demanded money in varying amounts, ranging from
Rp 5 million to Rp 10 million, saying that this would be needed
to cover the operational costs of the director general and other
activities of the immigration office.
The person, using a variety of names, will call the victim,
saying that Bapak director general of immigration will talk to
him. Then, the false director general will briefly say "Please
help my aide with anything he asks", to be followed by "the
aide", who will ask that the money should be immediately
transferred and he should be contacted at cellular phone number
08129516188 after the transfer has been made.
To avoid any further deception, the director general, through
secretary of the director general, Ali Amran Djanah, has issued a
letter no. UM 02.02.839 dated Aug. 8, 2001 to be distributed to
all relevant parties that may be targeted by this mischievous
act, calling on them to pay no heed to such phone calls and to
contact immediately phone numbers 5225034, 5225030 or 5225038 if
necessary.
