South Jakarta Water Resources Subdepartment (SDA) has attributed the road collapse on Lenteng Agung Raya in Jagakarsa, heading towards Depok, to deteriorated concrete structures.

“The cause is a crossing with a three-metre concrete structure, which is likely aged and deteriorated,” said Sartono, Head of the Jagakarsa SDA Subdepartment, to reporters at Lenteng Agung Raya, Jakarta, on Friday.

He stated the hole measured 3 metres wide, 16 metres long, and 3 metres deep.

The hole is located above the University of Indonesia connector channel (Phb) leading to the Ciliwung River.

“Thankfully, the debris has not obstructed water flow. Although a third of the concrete structure has collapsed, it hasn’t blocked the water. The flow remains unimpeded, though a third of the area has sunk. It will be temporarily cleared,” Sartono said.

“According to higher-ups, this will be handled via direct appointment (PL) due to the emergency. Later, it may be contracted out to a third party,” Sartono added.

The road collapse, which occurred on Wednesday (27 May), measured 3 metres deep and 16 metres long. The collapse site is located just after Gang Empang on Lenteng Agung Raya Road.

The incident caused traffic congestion from Jakarta to Depok.

Traffic police are currently managing the remaining single-lane traffic and directing vehicles. Drivers are proceeding cautiously through the affected area.
