Dec. 6, 1949: The Dutch government handed over authority of the Police institution to Indonesia, three weeks before the country's sovereignty was handed over on Dec. 27.
Sr. Comr. Ating Natadikusuma was appointed as the first Commissioner of the Jakarta Police, and the first headquarters was on Jl. Medan Merdeka Barat.
Due to the construction of the National Monument (Monas), the city police headquarters was moved to Jl. Sudirman.
1967: Governor Ali Sadikin added the word "metro" to the city police name after he declared Jakarta a metropolis.
1970: A six-story building was constructed at the city police headquarters, right next to the Semanggi toll road intersection.
The police were organizationally subordinate to the then Indonesian Armed Forces (ABRI).
1980: Jakarta Police were given jurisdiction over other areas in Greater Jakarta -- Tangerang, Bekasi and Depok.
