Debt Collectors Stab Advocate in Tangerang Whilst Attempting Vehicle Repossession
A violent incident occurred when a group of debt collectors, known as ‘mata elang’ (matel), attempted to forcibly repossess a vehicle in Kelapa Dua, Tangerang Regency. The perpetrators attacked and stabbed the victim.
As reported by detikcom, the horrific incident took place in a residential area in Karawaci, Kelapa Dua, Tangerang Regency, on Sunday (23 February). The perpetrators arrived at the victim’s house with the intention of repossessing his Toyota Fortuner, which was reportedly in arrears.
The incident was captured in an amateur video and went viral on social media. The video shows two men entering a white car with license plate B-2540-JUN and speeding away.
“Hey, this is… this is robbery. Please, please, these are debt collectors, robbers… robbers… hey, robbers,” a woman shouts in the video, as seen by detikcom on Tuesday (14 February).
Another video shows the victim already in a room, sitting and holding his bloodied stomach.
“My husband was stabbed. Police, please, my husband was stabbed, please… oh, dear,” the victim’s wife cries hysterically.
Stabbing Triggered by Vehicle Repossession
The Head of Public Relations of the Metro Jaya Regional Police, Commissioner Budi Hermanto, stated that the stabbing was carried out by the perpetrators who claimed to be debt collectors from a leasing company. The perpetrators claimed that the victim’s Fortuner car was in arrears.
“The victim and the three unknown individuals had an argument regarding the outstanding payments for the victim’s white Toyota Fortuner. The victim was two months in arrears. The victim and the witness ignored the three unknown individuals who claimed to be debt collectors,” Budi told reporters on Tuesday (24 February).
Victim Suffered Three Stab Wounds
The stabbing resulted in serious injuries to the victim. He was stabbed in the stomach and back.
“There were two stab wounds in the stomach and one stab wound in the back,” said Commissioner Budi Hermanto in a statement on Tuesday (24 February).
Bastian was immediately taken to the nearest clinic. However, due to the severity of his injuries, he was referred to a hospital in the Karawaci area.
“Because the victim’s injuries were quite serious, he was rushed to Siloam International Hospital Lippo Karawaci Kelapa Dua,” he added.
Chronology of the Stabbing

The victim and the witness ignored the three unknown individuals who claimed to be debt collectors,” Budi told reporters on Tuesday (24 February).
Upon arriving at the residential gate, the victim reprimanded the security guard because of the perpetrators who had come to his house. The perpetrators, who were about to leave the residential area, met the victim at the gate. At that moment, an argument ensued, leading to the stabbing.
“Because at that time, the car allegedly belonging to the perpetrators was blocking the road, the victim approached the alleged perpetrators to ask for their identification. When the witness came out of the car, he saw that the victim was covered in blood, which was coming from his stomach, which had been stabbed by one of the men wearing a blue checkered shirt,” explained Budi.
Shortly after, the perpetrators left the scene. Budi said the victim was stabbed three times by the perpetrators.
“The witness saw two stab wounds in the stomach and one stab wound in the back. At that time, he was taken to Mega Clinic. Because the victim’s injuries were quite serious, he was rushed to Siloam International Hospital Lippo Karawaci Kelapa Dua,” he said.
Police Investigate
Boy said that the Criminal Investigation Unit of the South Tangerang Police had visited the crime scene and examined several witnesses in order to take action against the group of debt collectors who carried out the stabbing.
“Several witnesses have been questioned in order to take action and arrest the arrogant debt collectors,” he said.
In addition, Boy Jumalolo also visited the victim, who was lying in the hospital to receive treatment for the stab wounds at the Tangerang Regency General Hospital.
“We will take firm action against the group of debt collectors who are causing unrest in the South Tangerang Police area,” he said.
