Debt Collectors Attempt to Seize Car on Bandung Street; Victim Terrified and Immediately Called the Police

Video footage showing several debt collectors, known locally as mata elang, stopping a car on Jalan Dr Djundjunan in Bandung went viral on social media. They intimidated the driver and demanded to conduct a vehicle inspection. However, the victim did not exit the car and immediately called the police. The assailants dispersed. Kasatreskrim Polrestabes Bandung AKBP Anton said the incident, where the debt collectors pressed the driver under the pretext of inspecting the vehicle, occurred on the afternoon of Wednesday, 25 February 2026. He added that the driver was cornered by two motorbikes and told to stop. ‘The victim was approached by debt collectors and forced to exit the vehicle on the grounds of checking the vehicle,’ he said, on Tuesday, 3 March 2026. He added that the victim felt frightened and immediately contacted the police. Police attended the scene and found the debt collectors had dispersed.
