Debt Collectors Arrested in Cikupa for Extorting Motorist with Stolen Vehicle Accusation

The Tangerang Police have arrested three debt collectors who stopped and extorted a motorcyclist in Cikupa, Tangerang, Banten. The victim was also accused of riding a stolen vehicle.

Tangerang Police Chief Senior Commissioner Andi Muhammad Indra Waspada Amirullah said the extortion took place on Thursday, 13 August 2026. At the time, the victim, identified by the initials JK, was riding a motorcycle on Jalan Raya Km 17.5, Talaga Village, Cikupa District.

The victim was stopped by three suspects, identified as TB (24), YA (21), and AF (22), who claimed to be debt collectors for PT APL BM. The three suspects then took the victim and his motorcycle to the company’s office in Cikupa.

“Upon arriving at the office, the victim was questioned about the vehicle he was riding. During the process, the victim was accused of riding a motorcycle obtained through theft,” Indra Waspada said on Friday, 21 August.

The victim explained that the vehicle was not stolen and that he had the vehicle ownership document (BPKB). However, the victim was still asked to hand over a sum of money on the grounds that the motorcycle could be released from the office.

The suspects intimidated the victim and demanded Rp2.5 million. The victim objected and only agreed to pay Rp500,000, which was then transferred to suspect TB.

“Following the incident, the victim reported what he had experienced to the Tangerang Police for legal handling,” Indra Waspada explained.

After a series of investigations, police arrested the three suspects on Thursday, 20 August, at the PT APL BM office.

The three suspects are charged under Article 482 of the Criminal Code concerning extortion, which carries a maximum penalty of nine years in prison.

Indra Waspada stressed that the public must not be subjected to coercion, intimidation, or demands for money carried out through unlawful means. He urged members of the public who experience or witness similar suspected criminal acts to report them to the police immediately.

“Do not be afraid to report because every public report will be followed up according to procedure,” he said.
