Jakarta — JBI, a debt collector who stabbed an advocate with the initials BTS in Kelapa Dua, Tangerang, on Tuesday, 24 February 2026, deliberately carried a sharp weapon whilst intending to repossess the victim’s vehicle.

Kombes Pol Budi Hermanto, head of public relations at Jakarta Metro Police headquarters, stated that the sharp weapon was brought to injure customers who refused to surrender their vehicles for repossession.

“The perpetrator carried the sharp weapon in case there was resistance from the debtor or person controlling the vehicle to be repossessed,” explained Budi when contacted by Kompas.com on Monday, 2 March 2026.

“The fact that the perpetrator carried a sharp weapon indicates there was already intent to harm the customer if refusal occurred,” Budi added.

JBI was arrested on the Kalikangkung toll road in Semarang, Central Java, whilst attempting to flee. His two accomplices, identified by initials HK and SS, remain at large and have been listed as wanted persons (DPO).

“The suspected perpetrator with the initials J.B.I. was apprehended on Tuesday, 24 February 2026 at 23:50 WIB in Semarang, Central Java. The other two wanted persons remain under pursuit,” said Budi.

The incident began when three debt collectors arrived at the victim’s residence to repossess a vehicle allegedly in arrears on its instalment payments.

“A dispute ensued because the victim believed the repossession process did not comply with proper procedures,” said the victim’s legal representative, Andri Jurnisal, who was met at Tangsel Police Station on Tuesday, 24 February 2026.

During the dispute, the debt collectors took the vehicle. However, because the victim could not identify the debt collectors, he requested the residential security guard to detain their vehicle at the compound gate.

“The victim asked security to stop the debt collector’s vehicle so they could be asked to provide identification,” said Andri.

The victim then went to the residential gate, but the situation became heated at that location. One of the debt collectors allegedly drew a sharp weapon and directly attacked the victim.

The incident was subsequently reported to Kelapa Dua Police Station on Monday evening at approximately 20:30 WIB.
