Debt Collection Dispute Leads to Violence in Tangerang...
TANGERANG, KOMPAS.com - A debt collection dispute over unpaid car loan instalments, which should have been resolved through legal and administrative channels, has resulted in violence in a residential area of Palem Semi, Karawaci, Tangerang. A lawyer, identified as BST, became the victim of a stabbing by debt collectors who claimed to have been authorised by the financing company, Mandiri Tunas Finance. The incident, which occurred on Monday (23/2/2026) afternoon, not only left the victim with physical injuries but also sparked solidarity among hundreds of lawyers and plans for legal action against those deemed responsible. “The operation took place from 09:00 to approximately 15:00. After that, around 18:00, he began to regain consciousness,” said Wiliyanto when confirmed by Kompas.com on Wednesday (25/2/2026). He explained that when the victim came out of the operating room, his condition was still critical. “On Monday evening, around 18:00, he began to regain consciousness, but because he was still weak, the doctor put him back to sleep,” he said. BST suffered three stab wounds, two in the abdomen and one in the back. The wound on the back is said to have had the most impact because it caused air to enter the victim’s lungs. However, he assured that the victim’s condition has now passed the critical stage. “All of his organs are fine; none of the vital organs were hit,” he said. Another of BST’s lawyers, from the DPD of the Indonesian Advocates Congress, Andri Jurnisal, said that three debt collectors had been around the victim’s house since 14:00. “From the CCTV, we can see that they had been watching in front of the house,” said Andri when met by Kompas.com at the Tangerang Selatan Police Headquarters, Serpong, on Tuesday (24/2/2026). At that time, the house was empty because the victim and his wife, Gloriana (36), were picking up their child.
