Death toll rises in Binjai attack

MEDAN, North Sumatra: A civilian shot when the Army attacked a police base in Binjai, North Sumatra last month, died in Gatot Subroto Hospital in Jakarta on Thursday.

The body of Zaenuddin, the victim, has been delivered to his families in Medan for burial.

Separately, North Sumatra governor T. Rizal Nurdin, through the Amal Putra Bangsa foundation, donated Rp 143.5 million (US$15,900) to the families of the victims.

The recipients included the families of the 11 killed and the 18 injured policemen, soldiers and civilians. Money was also distributed to the 20 soldiers who were dismissed after the Binjai incident. -- JP
