Death toll in Bali's Buleleng flash flood rises to two
Two people have now died in the flash flood that hit Buleleng Regency, Bali, after the body of Komang Suci (44) was found on Saturday, 7 March. She was found deceased in a debris pile about 1.5 kilometres from the initial location where she was swept away at her home. Her body was transported to RS Pratama Buleleng by a PMI Buleleng ambulance. ‘When found the time was reported as 13:56 WITA and she was evacuated by the joint SAR team at 14:18 WITA,’ said I Nyoman Sidakarya, head of the Denpasar Search and Rescue Office, who went to the scene. He said authorities are still seeking to bring in heavy equipment to assist the joint SAR team. The search-and-rescue operation on the second day involved personnel from multiple agencies, volunteers, residents and the victims’ families, with searches conducted from around 07:30 WITA. They were divided into several SRUs (Search and Rescue Units), focusing on the river, waters, beaches, and debris piles carried by the strong currents. The SRU at sea began moving at 08:00 WITA, deploying a rubber boat from the Buleleng SAR Post and the Police Water Unit (Polair), according to the search area. The land SRU moved along the eastern and western coastal strips of Banjar Beach and Kalianget Beach. In the search, they faced obstacles from mud and large debris. As of 18:00 WITA, the SAR operation was suspended temporarily, with plans to resume on Sunday morning (8 March). Basarnas Bali notes that two more victims remain missing: Putu Wini (17) and Kadek Wahyu (12). As reported previously, one victim, Dewa Ketut Adi Suarjana (55), of Dusun Santal, had died. (H-3) The flash flood that struck the area in November 2025 changed everything. Homes that for decades had been gathering places for families were swept away. Normalization of the Cisunggalah River is seen as a primary solution as a post-flood mitigation measure.
