The death toll from inter-village clashes in East Adonara District, East Flores Regency, NTT, has reportedly increased from two to three. The three victims are Nayamudin Iskandar, 21, from Bele Hamlet, Waiburak Village, and Petrus Kopong Emit and Hugo, 62, from Lewonara Hamlet, Narasaoni Village. Two of the victims have been buried, while the third is scheduled for burial on Sunday (19/7). Five injured individuals are being treated in hospital: Purnama BL, 19, and Siti Soleha, 63, both from Waiburak Village, and Sipriano M Ama, Thomas Tubun, and Anwar Sabon from Narasaosina Village. Flores Timur Police Chief AKBP Adhitya Octorio Putra, through Head of Public Relations AKP Eliezer A. Kalelado, stated that 20 homes were burned down. Joint security personnel remain stationed at strategic border points to anticipate potential further disputes. “Residents in both hamlets are still guarding their respective areas as a precaution, but the situation is generally under control through security measures, dialogue patrols, and ongoing early detection,” said AKP Eliezer A. Kalelado. He added that security forces from the Flores Timur Police and the Indonesian National Armed Forces are prioritising humanitarian and preventive measures, including assisting with victim evacuation, providing security, and establishing communication with community leaders and village officials to restore normalcy. “We urge all residents to remain calm, not to be easily provoked by unverified information, and to work together to maintain brotherhood for a safe and conducive security situation,” he said.
