Death Toll from NTT Earthquake Rises to 83

The death toll from the magnitude 7.7 earthquake in Nagekeo, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT), continues to rise. Basarnas has recorded that the number of fatalities as of Friday (21/8/2026) has reached 83 people.

Deputy for Operations and Readiness at Basarnas, Major General (Mar) Edy Prakoso, said that as of Friday at 11.00 WIB, 1,050 people had been recorded as victims of the earthquake.

“83 people have died, 328 people are seriously injured, and 639 have minor injuries,” Edy said in a press release on Friday.

Edy said East Manggarai Regency is the area with the highest number of victims. A total of 670 people were affected, with 70 of them dying.

Meanwhile, aftershocks continued to occur until Friday morning. Head of the Kupang Geophysics Station, Arief Tyastama, said around 4,350 aftershocks had been recorded as of 08.00 Wita.

“The largest magnitude was M 6.2, the smallest M 1.1, and there were 31 tremors above magnitude 5, with 118 being felt,” Arief said on Friday.

Food stocks for displaced residents are beginning to run low. Conditions for displaced people in several areas also remain a concern. A resident of Palue Village, Sikka Regency, Elloysia, said food supplies for displaced people are starting to diminish.

“Our food stocks are beginning to run low, and aid cannot yet be fully allocated,” she said when contacted by detikBali on Friday.

She said several areas have suffered quite severe damage. Kesokoja Village, Edo Hamlet, and Natakuni Village were cited as locations with a significant number of damaged homes.

“Everyone is hoping for assistance,” she stressed.

Previously, the death toll from the magnitude 7.7 earthquake in Flores, East Manggarai, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT), continued to rise. As of 18.00 Wita that day, the number of fatalities stood at 73 people. Meanwhile, the total number of seriously and lightly injured victims was 931 people.

“The provisional recapitulation shows 73 people have died,” said head of the Maumere SAR office, Fathur Rahman, on Wednesday (19/8/2026) evening.

The earthquake victims are spread across seven regencies in Flores. The highest number of fatalities was in Manggarai Regency, with 27 people. There were 32 seriously injured and 104 lightly injured. Most of the victims were in the Reo area.

The next highest number of fatalities was in East Manggarai, with 24 people. There were 198 seriously injured and 421 lightly injured.

In Nagekeo Regency, 11 people died, 13 were seriously injured, and 9 were lightly injured. In Sikka Regency, 5 people died, 18 were seriously injured, and 22 were lightly injured. In Ende Regency, 2 people died, 5 were seriously injured, and 67 were lightly injured.

In Ngada Regency, 2 people died, 17 were seriously injured, and 19 were lightly injured. In West Manggarai Regency, 2 people died, 2 were seriously injured, and 4 were lightly injured.
