Death toll from latest US strikes on Iran rises to 17

The number of casualties from the latest United States strikes on Iran has risen to 17, with more than 100 others injured, according to the head of media affairs at Iran’s Ministry of Health, Hossein Kermanpour. He had previously reported 14 dead and 78 wounded. “During the air strikes in six cities in Iran on 8-9 July, a total of 115 people were injured, including two women. Fourteen operations were performed, 102 people received medical treatment and were discharged. Unfortunately, 17 citizens were killed, one of whom was a woman,” Kermanpour stated on X on Friday. On Wednesday evening, US military forces launched a series of strikes against Iran. US Central Command (CENTCOM) claimed the move was in retaliation for Iranian actions against commercial ships transiting the Strait of Hormuz. Iranian forces subsequently reported counter-strikes against US bases in Bahrain and Kuwait, while Iranian authorities accused Washington of violating a memorandum aimed at ending the conflict. President Donald Trump later said the ceasefire between the US and Iran was no longer in effect. On Wednesday evening, the US resumed a second round of air strikes.
