Death toll from latest US strikes on Iran rises to 17

Tehran (ANTARA) - The number of casualties from the latest American strikes on Iran has risen to 17 people, whilst more than 100 others were injured, according to the head of media affairs at Iran’s Ministry of Health, Hossein Kermanpour.

He had previously stated that 14 people were killed and 78 others sustained injuries.

“During the air strikes on six cities in Iran on 8-9 July, a total of 115 people were injured, including two women. Fourteen operations were carried out, and 102 people received medical treatment and were discharged. Unfortunately, 17 citizens were killed, one of whom was a woman,” Kermanpour said on X on Friday.

On Wednesday night, US military forces launched a series of attacks against Iran.

US Central Command (CENTCOM) claimed the move was in retaliation for Iran’s actions against commercial vessels passing through the Strait of Hormuz.

Iranian forces subsequently reported counter-attacks on US bases in Bahrain and Kuwait, whilst Iranian authorities accused Washington of violating a memorandum aimed at ending the conflict.

President Donald Trump later said the ceasefire between the United States and Iran was no longer in effect.

On Wednesday night, the US carried out a second round of air strikes.
