Death toll from China mine explosion reaches 90
Beijing — The death toll from a coal mine explosion in Qingyuan District, Shanxi Province, northern China, has risen to 90, according to China Central Television on Saturday. Earlier that day, the broadcaster had said about 82 people had died and nine miners were missing in the incident. The gas explosion occurred at the coal mine on Friday night, when 247 workers were underground. Rescue operations are ongoing, while local authorities continue to investigate the causes of the blast.
