BEKASI — The death toll from a garbage heap collapse at the Bantargebang Integrated Waste Management Facility (TPST) in Bekasi has risen to five as of Monday, 9 March 2026, with four additional people still being searched for by combined rescue teams.

The death toll increased after search and rescue teams discovered one body on Monday around 12:00 WIB. The victim was found beneath heaps of waste that had been previously excavated using heavy equipment, specifically an excavator.

According to Desiana, a rescue official, the body was discovered approximately five metres from a truck that had been found the previous evening. The truck is believed to belong to one of the victims buried in the waste collapse.

“The truck was found last night, but there was no victim inside. Therefore, the victim found today is likely the driver of the truck we discovered last night,” Desiana stated to the media on Monday.

After being evacuated, the body was immediately transported to Polri Kramat Jati Hospital for further identification procedures.

Combined rescue teams are continuing their search for the remaining victims believed to still be buried under the waste. “There are still four more that we need to search for,” Desiana said.

With the discovery of this body, the total number of fatalities from the waste heap collapse at Bantargebang has now reached five. “That makes five dead in total — there were four last night, and this brings it to five,” she added.
