A victim from the rubbish collapse at Bantargebang Waste Transfer Facility (TPST) in Bekasi City was discovered again on Sunday afternoon. The death toll currently stands at five persons.

“At approximately 12:05 WIB, one victim was found deceased and immediately transported to Kramat Jati Police Hospital for identification procedures,” said Ramli Prasetyo, Public Relations Officer of Jakarta Search and Rescue Office, on Monday (9 March 2026).

To date, five victims have been discovered deceased, whilst several other victims declared missing remain the subject of ongoing search efforts.

The incident occurred on Sunday, 8 March 2026 at approximately 2:00 PM. The collapse happened suddenly, with waste material crushing a small shop and several waste collection trucks.

“Witnesses heard residents shouting about the collapse, then observed the heap of rubbish suddenly collapse, blocking the road and crushing the shop and several waste trucks,” stated Metro Bekasi City Police Chief Senior Commissioner Kusumo in his statement on Monday (9 March 2026).

News of the Bantargebang rubbish collapse spread rapidly through the waste facility’s security communications group, prompting personnel to immediately proceed to the location. Police from Bantargebang Police Station rushed to the scene after receiving notification.

Officers from various units responded to the scene to conduct evacuation operations. Search and rescue efforts continue with heavy equipment including excavators.
