Death Toll From Bantargebang Landfill Collapse Rises to Five
Combined search and rescue teams discovered another victim from the waste pile collapse at Bantargebang Waste Treatment Site (TPST) in Bekasi.
The victim, identified as Hardianto, was found deceased on Monday 9 March in the late afternoon. The victim was transported to Polri Kramat Jati Hospital.
“At 17:50 WIB, combined search and rescue teams discovered another victim identified as Hardianto in deceased condition at the edge of a river channel buried under waste accumulation. The victim was subsequently transported to Polri Kramat Jati Hospital,” said Jakarta Search and Rescue Office Head Desiana Kartika in a written statement.
With the addition of one victim, the total death toll from the collapse now stands at five persons.
Desiana stated that six persons were reported to have survived. Meanwhile, one victim named Riki remains being searched for by combined search and rescue teams.
“The number of victims continues to be documented based on witness accounts and statements from family members who have lost relatives,” she said.
