Death sentence for corruptors

From Media Indonesia

The attorney general has said that capital punishment is still needed to deter criminals, but the sentence has not been handed down to any corruptors, and yet the country is still in the midst of a crisis.

While drug traffickers and murderers have recently gotten the firing squad, why can't the sentence be given to corruptors? Is it because they are in a position to buy their way out of the sentence?

As the country is based on law for all citizens, the death sentence should also be imposed on corruptors, because they cause far greater disruption to the basis of state resilience and independence.

Now the fact is that the state has incurred huge sums of debts, however, the funds that should be going into the state treasury, in huge amounts, have vanished as a result of massive corruption by tax officials.

Also, the council of subdistricts in Jakarta, while denying a corruption allegation in connection with the government's fuel subsidy assistance fund for the poor, has admitted that if any graft was actually committed, the sum would have been less than Rp 1 billion. How many poor people could that have helped if it got to them?

Still, those known to have struggled for clean governance are reportedly involved in irregularities concerning the use of relief aid for tsunami victims, while a high-ranking official from the General Elections Commission has been arrested for allegedly bribing a government auditor, who had found irregularities by the election commission.

As all this goes on, the country is certainly trapped in a crisis. In addition to the high rate of unemployment, the tens of millions living in poverty has also increased following the fuel price increase. Therefore, it is only proper to sentence to death the corruptors, as a deterrent.
