Death of a Female Lecturer in Semarang: AKBP Basuki Sentenced to Six Years' Prison

The Semarang City District Court has sentenced AKBP Basuki, a police officer, to six years’ imprisonment for his involvement in the death of a female lecturer in Semarang. The sentence, read by Chief Judge Achmad Rasjid in Semarang on Wednesday, was harsher than the prosecutors’ request of five years. The judge found Basuki guilty of violating Article 474(3) of the Indonesian Criminal Code on negligence resulting in the death of another person. In delivering the verdict, the judge noted that as an active member of the police, Basuki should have understood the vulnerable condition of someone in distress and in need of help, yet he allegedly ignored the victim DL’s condition, ultimately causing the death. The judge stated that Basuki ignored the victim’s illness and deprived them of the chance to receive medical treatment that could have saved their life. Basuki told the court he would appeal, while the prosecutors said they would consider their next move. Earlier, a woman identified by the initials D, who was a lecturer at a Semarang university, was found dead at a guesthouse on Jalan Telaga Bodas, Semarang, on 17 November 2025. The victim was staying at a hotel with Basuki before her death was reported.
