Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia - The Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM), Bahlil Lahadalia, has revealed that imports of crude oil from Russia are targeted to begin arriving in Indonesia within the next one to two weeks.

According to Bahlil, the process for the oil import agreement has been completed, including the cooperation contract between the two parties. Currently, the government is only finalising the technical aspects of the shipment.

“The deal is done. The contract is in place. Now we’re discussing the shipment techniques, and it should be possible within one or two weeks,” Bahlil said when met at the Ministry of ESDM on Monday (11/5/2026).

Previously, Bahlil stated that the plan to purchase crude oil from Russia is a follow-up to instructions from President Prabowo Subianto after his meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Nevertheless, he emphasised that Indonesia will not rely on just one country to meet its import needs. The government is also keeping options open for imports from other countries, including the United States.

“Why? In an uncertain geopolitical position, we cannot expect to depend on just one country. So there must be diversification. Thus, insha’Allah, our crude oil situation will improve,” he said.

In addition to crude oil, the government is also exploring LPG imports from Russia. This aligns with the increasing national LPG needs, estimated to reach around 10 million tons per year in the coming years.

“Now, in connection with that, we are also seeking new markets. Our total production is only 1.6 million. So we must find new markets, including in Russia. Insha’Allah, for LPG with Russia, it’s now in the finalisation stage,” he added.
